LAMBETH SPECIAL EDUCATIONAL NEEDS AND DISABILITY LOCAL OFFER
The Children and Families Act sets out a new Special Educational Needs and Disability (SEND) Code of Practice placing a duty on local authorities to publish in one place a 'Local Offer'-- information about provision for children and young people with SEND and support for their families.
The Local Offer has two purposes:
To provide parents, children and young people with clear, comprehensive and accessible information about provision available and how they can access it,
To make the provision more responsive to local needs and aspirations by directly involving children and young people with SEND, parents, carers and service providers in its review and development.
The Local Offer will include provision from birth to 25 years across education, health and social care for children and young people with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities. For more information about Special Educational Needs and Disabilities means click on this link. SEND
As part of the process of preparation of the Local Offer there is an opportunity for all people involved with children and young people with SEND to contribute their views on what provision should be made for children with SEND.
Lambeth Council consulted widely during 2013 about the provision in special schools, and that influenced the designations of our special schools. The development of the Local Offer presents the opportunity for consultation about other provision for children and young people with SEND.
The Local Offer supports the Lambeth Pledges to provide an effective and responsive service to our community.
The information in the Local Offer has been collected from across the Council, the NHS and Voluntary agencies. It has been collated to give an overview of the services provided to support children with SEN and Disabilities. The information will help everyone in the local community and agencies concerned, to work together to say what should be in the Local Offer in future.
