Saint Gabriel's College
Head Teacher: Nick Butler
As a small, inclusive college we are committed to recognising and developing to the full the potential of each and every pupil whatever his or her starting point on joining us. We set high expectations in all things and push the boundaries in terms of expected progress.
Our motto is Shine, Grow, Communicate. We believe that we can do all things through God who strengthens us. We know that with appropriate encouragement, challenge and support each pupil will shine with confidence in their learning, grow in their spiritual and moral awareness and develop the skills and attitudes necessary to communicate clearly and powerfully as citizens who will make the world a better place.
Our college chaplain supports us in our mission to remove all barriers to learning by encouraging the development of spiritual self-awareness and inner strength, attributes that support self-discipline.
To ensure that each child is known and nurtured from the outset pupils become members of one of three Learning Communities, each of which is led by a Head of Learning Community supported by an attached Pastoral Officer and Learning Mentor. Each learning community is, in effect, a family whose members work together to encourage and support each other in becoming the best that they can be in all aspects of school life. Heads of Learning Community and Pastoral Officers build important links with families, knowing that strong partnerships with parents make a huge difference to success at school.
The academic life of the college is organised through five faculties, each led by a Head of Faculty: Communication, Creative and Media Arts, Maths and ICT, Science and PE and Social Studies. We ensure all pupils experience a balanced curriculum appropriate for their needs and increasingly as they mature, their interests.
We offer our pupils outstanding opportunities through our specialisms in Creative and Media Arts, including workshops with lead practitioners at nationally esteemed venues and our partnership with WPP, the world's biggest marketing company.
We expect all pupils to learn a musical instrument in Year 7. We believe that music instils the discipline required for academic success and offers personal, social and cultural enrichment to all participants in experiencing the pleasure that shared performance brings.
The college leadership team is structured to ensure close monitoring and review of all key performance indicators; we will ensure no child is left behind and will accept no excuses for underperformance. Areas of responsibility include: Teaching quality, Curriculum, Behaviour for Learning, Tracking pupil progress, Support for Learning.
